About Purinto - printmaker
Purinto was set up by Kirstin, a self-taught print maker and BA graduate with a passion for design and the arts.
Inspired by interactions and experiences with nature, Kirstin’s original art and handcarved prints, explore the intricate shapes, textures and dynamics of natural forms; whether flora and fauna, geographical features, trees, or the energy of the sea and clouds in the sky.
Specialising in linocut printing and broader print making techniques, all of Kirstin’s work is about connecting you, from your home, to the natural world and helping you bring the outside in.
My story
As the granddaughter of a country timber merchant, I’ve always appreciated wood and other natural materials. I became passionate about their use when I started using reclaimed materials to create various items for my home; from stair rails to furniture including dining tables, mirrors, frames and more. This inspired me to explore , through my art, the effect that materials and the natural world in general have on our living environment and well-being.
I now create pieces that connect people to their memories and experiences of places and nature, that can be enjoyed and revoked in their own homes.
My work gives you the ability to slow down and take time just to be in the moment.
As a keen traveller and explorer I enjoy sketching my observations of the natural world; wildlife, geology, the sea and flora and fauna. This, coupled with my love of Japanese tradition and culture led me to explore traditional carving and print making.
As an artisan printmaker I focus on traditional techniques and the complete design-to-print process. The results are original designs with a unique style and a very human touch.
Today, all my passions combine to bring Purinto to life with a range of printed items – from original artwork to handprinted homewares, tea towels, greeting cards and more.
